Warhammer Quest — Cooperative Adventure in the Mortal Realms

Warhammer Quest is Games Workshop's cooperative dungeon crawler — a very different experience from the competitive army battles of Warhammer 40,000 or Age of Sigmar. Instead of fighting a human opponent, players work together as a band of heroes exploring dangerous locations, fighting procedurally generated enemies and unfolding a narrative campaign. It is one of the most accessible entry points into the Warhammer hobby — fewer models, faster setup and a game structure familiar to anyone who has played a board game or dungeon crawler before.

At Colours of Warriors, we stock Warhammer Quest titles including Cursed City. Visit our store in Pilsen, Czech Republic, or order online with delivery across the EU.

What Is Warhammer Quest?

Warhammer Quest is a cooperative miniature board game — players don't compete against each other but work together against enemies controlled by the game itself. Each player takes command of a unique hero with their own abilities, weapons and progression path, and the group must complete missions, defeat powerful enemies and survive increasingly dangerous encounters as the campaign develops.

The game supports 1–4 players and includes a fully supported solo mode — one of the very few Warhammer games that can be played entirely alone. This makes Warhammer Quest ideal for hobbyists who want a rich gaming experience without the need to find opponents.

Warhammer Quest: Cursed City

Warhammer Quest: Cursed City is the current flagship title — a cooperative dungeon crawler set in the gothic horror city of Ulfenkarn, a once-great port city now under the iron grip of the vampire lord Radukar the Wolf. Players take on the roles of eight unique heroes who have come to Ulfenkarn to end Radukar's reign and free the city from the undead.

The box contains an exceptional collection of miniatures:

8 hero miniatures — each a unique character with their own sculpt, backstory, stat profile and special abilities. The heroes include Jelsen Darrock the vampire hunter, Octren Glimscry the wizard, Emelda Braskov the noble warrior, Dagnai Holdenstock the dwarf engineer, Brutogg Corpse-Eater the orruk, Qulathis the Exile the aelf ranger, Cleona Zeitengale the warrior-priest and Glaurio ven Alten III the Freeguild soldier.

Over 60 enemy miniatures — zombies, skeletons, dire wolves, vampire thralls, Ulfenwatch guards, Kosargi Nightguard and powerful boss enemies including Radukar himself, his court of vampire nobles and the monstrous Gorslav the Gravekeeper.

Modular game boards — double-sided interlocking boards representing the streets, buildings and dark corners of Ulfenkarn, providing a different layout for every mission.

Quest Book — a full narrative campaign with sequential missions, escalating difficulty and a story that unfolds as the heroes progress through the city.

How Warhammer Quest Plays

Each game session represents one mission from the Quest Book. Players set up the modular boards according to the mission layout, place the starting enemies and begin exploring. On their turn, each hero can move, attack, use abilities and interact with the environment — then the enemies activate according to simple but effective AI rules that make them behave differently depending on the situation.

Between missions, heroes gain experience, acquire new equipment and develop their abilities. Injuries are persistent — a hero who takes too much damage may be incapacitated and miss future missions. The campaign builds a genuine narrative over the course of play, with the stakes rising as the heroes grow stronger and face increasingly dangerous enemies.

Warhammer Quest vs Other Warhammer Games

Warhammer Quest sits in a very different space to Warhammer 40,000, Age of Sigmar or Kill Team. Those games pit two players against each other with competing armies. Warhammer Quest is cooperative — everyone plays together against the game. This makes it ideal for groups who prefer a collaborative experience, or for solo players who want a rich campaign without needing an opponent.

The miniature count is also much lower — rather than painting an entire army, you paint a small group of unique hero models, each of which gets significant table time and individual attention. This is a very different — and for many people more rewarding — painting experience than batch-painting regiment after regiment.

Are the Miniatures Compatible with Age of Sigmar?

Yes — all Warhammer Quest: Cursed City miniatures are fully compatible with Warhammer Age of Sigmar. The heroes and enemies are all official Warhammer models that can be used in AoS games with their appropriate warscrolls. This makes Cursed City an attractive purchase for Age of Sigmar players — you get a complete cooperative game and a significant number of AoS-compatible models in a single box.

Radukar the Wolf and his court, in particular, are powerful and visually impressive models that are equally at home in a Soulblight Gravelords army as they are in a Cursed City campaign.

The Hobby Side — Painting Warhammer Quest Miniatures

Warhammer Quest is one of the best hobby projects for painters who want to focus on individual character models rather than army painting. Each hero is a unique sculpt with character and detail — the kind of model that rewards careful painting and individual attention.

The enemy models, by contrast, are ideal candidates for fast and efficient painting techniques. Citadel Contrast and Army Painter Speedpaint work exceptionally well for zombies, skeletons and undead — a single coat over white or grey primer produces great results in a fraction of the time. This means you can have all the game content painted and ready to play remarkably quickly.

We stock a full range of paints, brushes and modelling tools suited to Warhammer Quest painting projects.

Frequently Asked Questions — Warhammer Quest

What is Warhammer Quest and how is it different from other Warhammer games?
Warhammer Quest is a cooperative dungeon crawler — players work together against enemies controlled by the game rather than fighting a human opponent. Unlike Warhammer 40,000 or Age of Sigmar, there are no competing armies. Instead, a small group of unique heroes explores dangerous locations and completes narrative missions in a campaign setting.

Can Warhammer Quest be played solo?
Yes — Warhammer Quest: Cursed City fully supports solo play. The enemy AI rules work for any player count from 1 to 4, making it one of the very few Warhammer games that can be enjoyed entirely alone. Solo play is a genuinely supported mode, not an afterthought.

Do I need to know Age of Sigmar to play Warhammer Quest?
No — Warhammer Quest: Cursed City is a standalone game with its own complete rules. Knowledge of Age of Sigmar lore enriches the experience but is not required to play. The game is designed to be accessible to players who are new to the Warhammer universe.

Are the Cursed City miniatures compatible with Age of Sigmar?
Yes — all Cursed City miniatures are official Warhammer models usable in Age of Sigmar with their appropriate warscrolls. The heroes and villains — including Radukar the Wolf and his court — work in both games, making Cursed City an excellent combined purchase for Age of Sigmar players.

How many players does Warhammer Quest support?
Warhammer Quest: Cursed City supports 1–4 players. One player takes each hero, or in smaller groups players can control multiple heroes. The game is designed to scale well across all player counts and the solo experience is particularly strong.

How long does a Warhammer Quest session take?
Individual missions typically take 60–90 minutes. A full campaign spans multiple sessions played over several evenings. The modular mission structure means you can stop and resume between sessions without losing progress, making it ideal for regular gaming groups.
